The federal states have apparently decided that major events such as city, wine or folk festivals will remain prohibited for longer than initially announced. According to broadcaster ntv, which is said to have a corresponding government document, the ban has been extended to at least the end of October. Originally, August 31 was the earliest date.
The decision was made by Chancellor Angela Merkel and the respective heads of government of the individual federal states and should be announced in a timely manner. As justification, the paper cites that large events would still represent an "incalculable risk" despite falling infection numbers. In addition, the distance and hygiene rules are virtually impossible to comply with there.
