Whether in the garden, on the balcony, the terrace or in the apartment – a garland immediately creates a party atmosphere. Of course, it’s at its best when you make it yourself. Here you can see how easy it is to make a garland.
The bright splashes of color on a garland simply put you in a good mood. But we don’t want run-of-the-mill garlands – we prefer to stage self-made eye-catchers. And that’s very easy! Here we show you the easiest way imaginable to make a garland with colored paper. On top of that, there are many other ideas and instructions that you can implement just as easily.
Making a garland: Instructions for a pennant chain
You need:
- A piece of cardboard
- ruler
- pencil
- colored paper
- scissors
- line
- Glue
Craft instructions:
- Draw an isosceles triangle on a piece of cardboard and cut it out.
- Take the construction paper and fold it in half. Now use the triangle as a template and draw it several times. Place it on the fold so that you have as little paper waste as possible. Repeat this step with several colors of colored paper.
- Cut out the folded triangles (you would have unfolded several diamonds now) and trace the fold with your fingernail.
- Now glue the triangles one after the other around the cord in any colored order. Your colorful garland is ready!

Garland made from scraps of wool
A garland of individual tassels is quick to make and just looks adorable. To do this, wrap a long piece of wool around your fingers several times. With a piece of thread, gather the bundle of wool between your middle and index finger and tie it tight. Cut the bottom end and trim the threads to a uniform length. Then bring the outer ends together and staple them in place. You then guide the next strip of paper through the first heart, with which you proceed in the same way. A self-made garland is created heart by heart.
sew garland
If you have a sewing machine, you can use it to make a garland in no time at all. First you cut out a lot of circles of different sizes from thin craft felt (use circle-shaped templates in different sizes as templates). Then place them one after the other on the sewing machine and sew over them.
rainbow garland
This garland looks like a rainbow and will definitely add more color to your four walls! For crafting you need paper in many different colors. Cut out strips of paper of the same length (the quickest way to do this is with a paper cutter). Fold one strip into a loop and secure with staples (alternatively use a glue stick).
