  • You can specifically influence the effect with the self-made bath additives: There are bath additives with invigorating, calming or even immune system strengthening effects.
  • Of course, money is also a factor: Homemade bath products are much cheaper than bought ones and most of the time you already have the ingredients at home!

Make bath additive yourself: simple recipes

Bath additive with cinnamon sticks

Cinnamon stimulates the metabolism and can give us a cozy, warm bathing experience.

Application: Put three or four organic cinnamon sticks in the bathtub and let the water run in.

Danger: Pregnant women should not use this bath additive, as cinnamon can promote labor!

Bath additive with green tea

Green tea can develop its cell-protecting effect not only as a tea infusion, but also in bath water. The bath additive also helps to detoxify and stimulate skin regeneration. Green tea also scores with its firming effect.

Application: Add up to ten bags of green tea to the bath water.

Bath additive with honey and milk

Cleopatra already knew that milk and honey care for the skin. Milk has a protective and lipid replenishing function for the skin, while honey is a real vitamin and mineral booster. There is also this seductive scent …

Application: Heat a liter of milk (high in fat) in a saucepan and mix in 250 grams of honey until it is completely dissolved. Add the milk and honey mixture to the bath water.

Tip: Those with very dry skin rely on goat milk (high fat content!).

Bath additive with ginger

A hot bath with ginger is a real treat, especially in the cold winter, as it warms and stimulates blood circulation!

Application:

  1. Cut a piece of organic ginger (approx. 2 cm) into slices and bring the ginger pieces to a boil with a liter of water.
  2. Let the brew simmer for up to 10 minutes, then strain it off.
  3. Fill in the bath water only halfway, add the brew and then add more warm water.

Bath additive with chamomile flowers

Chamomile has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Application:

  1. Boil 100 grams of organic chamomile flowers with three liters of water and let the brew steep for half an hour.
  2. Then strain the liquid and add it to the bath water.

Bath additives with essential oils

Essential oils have many different effects and can be applied to specific needs. To do this, the oils are added to the water – or alternatively mixed beforehand with a quarter liter of milk or 25 milliliters of cooking oil (serves as an emulsifier and helps the oils to spread better).

Note: Use all-natural essential oils to exclude synthetic ingredients. Warning: some people are allergic to essential oils. Special care is required with sensitive skin and neurodermatitis.

  • Lavender oil: 4 to 5 drops; has a relaxing, pain-relieving and mood-enhancing effect
  • Thyme Oil: up to 5 drops; has an antibacterial, expectorant and antiviral effect (pregnant women and people who suffer from high blood pressure or epilepsy should not use thyme oil!)
  • Eucalyptus OIL: up to 5 drops; has an expectorant, antibacterial, refreshing effect
  • Sandalwood OIL: 4 to 5 drops; has a balancing effect and promotes wound healing

Danger: Essential oils should not be used in children as they can cause allergies or irritate the respiratory organs.

This is how a warm bath helps us

In our stressful everyday life, we take far too little time for ourselves! A warm bath therefore creates the perfect starting point for me-time, in order to calm the mind. Here you can relax and put your worries aside … Just switch off and concentrate on the moment and your breathing!

When bathing, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • The water temperature is crucial: the optimal temperature is between 35 and 38 degrees.
  • Create a cozy atmosphere so that you can really relax. You can do this with soft candlelight and calm music, for example.
  • Relax in the tub for up to 20 minutes, a maximum of twice a week.
  • If you use bath additives in the bath water, you should take a short shower after the bath so that nothing remains on the skin.
  • After the bath, you shouldn't fall into the hustle and bustle again: rest for 30 minutes after the bath.
  • Tip: Also, think about your skin after the bath and care for it sufficiently with cream.

Note: If you suffer from varicose veins, heart failure or low blood pressure, you should not use bath products that promote blood circulation or stimulate the metabolism.
