For the trap, you basically only need a few home remedies and a container. A wide-necked glass or bowl is suitable for this. In addition to water and detergent, you also need one Attractant, you can use apple cider vinegar, for example, or you can take a portion of clear vinegar and fruit juice (e.g. grape or apple juice). We show you exactly how to proceed in the video.

Fruit fly trap without juice

The detergent in the trap lowers the surface tension of the liquid so that the fruit flies sink and drown in it. For another variant in which the fruit flies are not killed, you need:

  • Bowl
  • Transparent film
  • vinegar
  • scissors
  • grapes

Fruit fly trap without juice: how it works

  1. Put some vinegar in the bowl.
  2. Halve a few grapes and place them face up in the vinegar jar.
  3. Now cover the bowl with the foil and prick a few holes with scissors or the like.
  4. The holes should be large enough to allow the flies to pass through, but not too large to allow them to fly out freely.

Another way to combat fruit flies is to use a fruit fly trap with beer – without juice, without vinegar. It is also very easy to build:

  1. Fill a suitable vessel with beer here too.
  2. Add a few drops of dish soap and cover the container with cling film.
  3. Pierce a few holes in the foil and place the trap near the fruit flies.

Tip: Instead of a tray and transparent film, one also works closable glass, you punch holes in the lid.
