Make lipstick yourself: Here's how

Whether for special occasions or as a daily companion – lipstick is part of the make-up routine for many women. The products purchased mostly contain paraffins, silicones and artificial colors and fragrances that enter the body through our mouth and can have a health-damaging or allergenic effect. You can avoid this by simply making your lipstick out of natural ingredients. You can also create a lipstick with your very own color. We explain how it works!

Make lipstick yourself

ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of shea butter (alternative: avocado butter)
  • 1 teaspoon of beeswax
  • 1 teaspoon of almond oil
  • color pigments
  • At will: essential oil (e.g. rose oil or lavender oil, make sure that it is suitable for consumption)
  • As needed: Vitamin E.

Info color powder: You need about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of color pigments – depending on whether you want a soft or strong shade, you use more or less accordingly. You can obtain natural color pigments, for example, from pure cocoa (brown color), beetroot powder for red, raspberry powder for pink, hibiscus powder for reddish brown. You can also mix color pigments together and create your own individual shades.

Tip: Pay attention to the organic quality of the ingredients. This is how you make sure that no pesticides or similar are contained.

Utils

  • Storage jars (sterile); alternatively, empty lipstick sleeves
  • Small heat-resistant bowl
  • Pot for the water bath
  • spoon
  • Small whisk
  • knife

Manual:

  1. Place the beeswax in a heat-resistant bowl and melt it in a water bath.
  2. Add the shea butter and almond oil. Mix the ingredients well as they melt.
  3. Take the bowl out of the water bath (attention, hot!) And stir in the natural pigments. Mix everything well with a whisk until you like the color and get a homogeneous mass. If you don't like the color yet, you can melt the mass again and stir in further pigments.
  4. If you want, you can add a few drops of essential oil very sparingly. This ensures a pleasant fragrance. Make sure that you only stir in this ingredient when the mass has cooled down a bit: Ideally, you shouldn't heat essential oils.
  5. You can also stir in a few drops of vitamin E, which will make the lipstick last longer.
  6. Fill the mass in a small jar or in clean lipstick tubes and let everything cool well.
  7. The color pigments may sink slightly. In this case, remove the top layer of the mass with a knife.
