Both have not yet been officially nominated – but it is almost certain that incumbent Biden and challenger Trump will compete for the White House. Both want to compete for voters’ favor in two TV duels.

US President Joe Biden and his rival Donald Trump want to compete against each other in two television debates before the presidential election in November. Trump accepted Biden’s challenge to the TV duels. The ex-president wrote in his online network Truth Social that he was “ready and willing” to do so.

Biden had previously said in a video published by X: “Make me happy, buddy. I’ll even do it twice.” He continued: “Then let’s choose the dates, Donald. I heard you have Wednesdays off.” He was alluding to the trial currently underway in New York to cover up a hush money payment to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. In the first criminal trial in history against a former US president, there is a break in proceedings every Wednesday.

Although Biden and Trump have not yet been formally nominated as their parties’ presidential candidates for the election on November 5th, their nomination is considered a mere formality. Trump has already won the Republican primaries handily, although they have not yet been concluded. Biden has no significant competition in the Democratic primaries, which are also ongoing.

The Republicans nominate their presidential candidate at a party conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in mid-July, and the Democrats’ nomination convention follows in August in Chicago, Illinois. There are actually three television debates between the presidential candidates of the two major US parties.
