Make shabby chic yourself: Instructions in the video

Too good to throw away, too ugly to keep? We'll show you how you can easily pimp a piece of furniture in trendy shabby chic! A quick guide and helpful tips.

Shabby chic? More than a trend!

Shabby chic has become an indispensable part of furnishing and decor trends. We can buy a lot of beautiful pieces (and we do it all the time, right?), But what do we do with furniture that is no longer beautiful, but we cling to it? Right, we spice them up. The shabby chic is easy to do yourself, we promise!

Make shabby chic yourself: that's what you need

For your self-made shabby chic you need:

  • Sandpaper
  • Chalk paint (e.g. from the hardware store or craft supplies)
  • Clean cloth
  • Furniture wax or clear lacquer
  • Brush / paint roller

Tip: If you don't have sandpaper, you can alternatively use the blunt (!) Side of a knife to create the typical shabby elements. After painting, you will find practical tips on cleaning your brush here.

Make shabby chic yourself: you should consider that

It makes sense to test on the piece of furniture whether you have a primer because you have to apply these before your shabby look. Otherwise, unsightly yellowish spots may soon shine through with the new look. Doing the shabby chic yourself does not only work with old furniture, of course, but also with new furniture, regardless of whether it is a chest of drawers, chairs or closets – but the good piece should be made of real wood!

Make shabby chic yourself: instructions

Shabby chic can be done by yourself in just a few steps, given the right conditions, most of the time will only be spent drying the paint. Before you start, clean the furniture with a damp cloth and possibly a gentle detergent. If there are metal fittings, remove them before painting. We'll show you how to proceed step by step in our instructions in the video.

Do you want one two-tone look for the furniture, a second coat of paint is needed: e.g. B. first apply gray, let it dry and in the next step paint over again with white paint. The color combination of course depends entirely on your taste.
