Make-up tips: This is how the make-up works despite the mask

Mask on, mask off, make-up smeared. Quite a few women know this problem in the current situation. The mandatory wearing of mouth and nose protection in many places can make morning make-up a real challenge. Which products should be avoided? And how are the eyes lit up when half of the face is covered by a mask? Make-up artist Elke Kim talks to the spot on news news agency.

Nothing works without fixing spray

"Under the mask, less is more durable," says the expert, who has already worked with stars such as Daniela Katzenberger (33), Jenke von Wilmsdorff (54) and Anna-Maria Zimmermann (31, "sky blue eyes"). She advises that the make-up should be "applied a little more finely these days and if possible avoiding products that are high in fat" – such as cream blush. But you should also refrain from lip gloss "because it can smear very quickly". Instead, she recommends "24 Hours Lipsticks" or "Pure Care Sticks".

"In order for a make-up to hold under the mask, it needs a fixation," explains the author of "Summer Make-up". She advises fixing spray. And this is how it works: "After the foundation has been applied, it is first fixed with a loose, transparent powder and, when the complete make-up is ready, again with a fixing spray." This lies like a fine mist over the make-up, so that it is not affected by the mask or heat.

Emphasize the eyes correctly

"A strong eye make-up is always an eye-catcher," says the expert. At the moment, however, the eyeliner, eyeshadow and kohl should be significantly less than usual. "Since the masks often already have a pattern or design, I recommend emphasizing the eyebrows and eyelashes more and applying the eye shadow more delicately." In this way the face would appear "not so overloaded".

Kim's tip: "Since it is very wet under the mask, the mascara often suffers – especially when wearing glasses when the glasses fog up. For perfect eyelashes and a full-time hold, I recommend waterproof mascara."

The make-up artist reveals a simple trick to showcase the eyes properly despite the shut-down of the make-up. "Especially in summer, shimmering highlights under the eyebrow, on the movable lid and in the inner corner of the eye are very beautiful." Pastel shades in particular would give freshness to the eye make-up. With blue eyes, the expert advises to bronze, "like metallic". Why? "Complementary colors always emphasize your own eye color."

Treat the skin to breaks

What is added in the morning should also be taken down in the evening. "Skincare is more important than ever so that the skin is radiant and clean and no pimples can develop," says the make-up artist. Therefore, she not only recommends "cleaning the skin very carefully every evening", it is also important to give the skin breaks in between. "My recommendation would be to always have two masks with you on the go and to take a break every 30 minutes for a kick of freshness and take a deep breath."
