Make a school cone with pompom hair clips
This is what we need for the first-grader school bag:
- blank in white, 70 cm (the children can of course choose the color of the school cone blanks themselves.)
- hair clips
- striped fabric
- pink and yellow bias tape
- Glossy paper, different colors (alternatively colored crepe paper)
- Wool, pompom maker
- Glue, double-sided tape
- pink sample clips (4 and 8 mm)
- circle cutter

- Glue circles of glossy paper to the school cone (also known as the handicraft cone).
- Measure the yellow bias tape, sew it together and fix it to the bag with the pattern clips (poke small holes).
- Make pom-poms according to the instructions, attach to the hair clips, two pom-poms are attached to the ends of a piece of bias tape (pink).
- Measure the circumference of the bag opening, cut out striped fabric plus 2 cm seam allowance.
- Close the seam while sewing on the pink binding tape in the middle. Bind the upper and lower edges with bias binding (fold over and sew).
- Fix the fabric to the edge of the bag with double-sided adhesive tape and press firmly.
Tinker school cone with cool robots
This is what we need for the first-grader school bag:
- School cone blank in blue
- Fabric with robot pattern, 50 cm
- Velor iron-on robot
- Name and date (here in the writing “Transistor”), have it copied onto transfer foil in the copy shop
- red bias tape

- Glue on the lettering at the desired height.
- Cut out the velor robot leaving a gap of 1 cm and attach to the bag with the double-sided adhesive tape.
- The top of the bag is also decorated with fabric here: border the upper edge with bias tape (fold over and sew), brush with wallpaper paste and glue on.
