Malakoff Humanis plans an increase in pension contributions

The pension reform which pushes back the legal retirement age to 64 will lead to an overall increase in provident contributions of 6% by 2030, according to Malakoff Humanis, one of the main French groups of complementary health and foresight.

Provident schemes make it possible to reimburse costs or loss of income caused by accident, illness or death.

If the pension reform is adopted, one can imagine that there will be a slightly longer absenteeism for people, because they will be in activity longer due to the postponement of the legal age, declared Thomas Saunier, the managing director of Malakoff Humanis (10,000 employees) who presented his annual results on Tuesday.

This absenteeism will generate new expenses for provident organizations like Malakoff Humanis, which will cause them to slightly increase contributions, he explained.

New expenses that require an increase in contributions

It will be spread over seven years, from 2023 to 2030, it will be progressive, and it will be quite correctable with some increases in contributions, he added. According to current forecasts, the overall increase in contributions between 2023 and 2030 should be 6%, he said. On the other hand, the reform will have no effect on health contributions, indicated Mr. Saunier.

Malakoff Humanis made a net profit of 168 million euros in 2022. This net profit is lower than the 222 million euros made in 2021, but it remains above the threshold of 150 million, which is the minimum level that this group managed on an equal basis has imposed on itself to respect.

Revenue reached 6.4 billion euros, up 4% on 2021. In 2022, the 100% Health reform (full reimbursement of care baskets in audiology, dental, and optics implemented from beginning of 2021) draped reimbursements in health, on dental in particular, indicated Mr. Saunier.

We were promised an additional cost of 150 million euros for the complementary health groups, and then it was finally 1.5 billion, he regretted.
