Mali: Arrest of two employees of the French Embassy in Bamako

PARIS, Sept 16 (Reuters) – Two employees of the French Embassy in Bamako were arrested on Thursday afternoon by the Malian authorities, Liberation reported on Friday, citing several local sources.

“The circumstances of these arrests are still unclear, but it would be French diplomats,” notes the daily in an article published Friday on its website.

Asked by Reuters, the services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not wish to comment at this stage.

Relations between Paris and the ruling junta in Bamako have been particularly tense for several months and the French forces of Operation Barkhane left Mali for good last month. (Report John Irish, written by Myriam Rivet, edited by Sophie Louet)
