Mallorca before the ordeal: bars and clubs stay as long as possible

Party tourists must reckon on Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands with severe restrictions due to the Corona pandemic. The Balearic Islands wanted to delay the reopening of nightclubs, discotheques and bars for as long as possible to the displeasure of the operators, regional president Francina Armengol told the newspapers of the Funke media group (Thursday editions). She justified this by saying that the risk of infection is the most difficult to control in such places.

"We want to guarantee that holidays in Mallorca are safe," said Armengol. That is why her government wants to keep nightclubs, discos and bars closed until there is a vaccination against the corona virus. Armengol also expressed the expectation that the corona crisis would also contribute in the long term to no party excesses in the Balearic Islands. Mallorca had been hit hard by the Corona crisis.

"Bucket drinking is history": Mallorca wants a new kind of tourism

"Bucket drinking is history," said the regional president. The Balearic Islands stand for a qualitative and sustainable tourism, sport, culture and culinary experiences. The regional government had already taken measures in 2019 to curb drinking tourism in El Arenal and Magaluf, which are particularly popular with German and British tourists. This program continues, said Armengol.

The regional president emphasized that the Balearic Islands are well equipped to restart tourism. With precautionary measures in the health system and in the hotels, the islands could guarantee "that tourists are safe here".

Mallorca holidaymakers have to measure fever

According to Armengol, the body temperature of holidaymakers in the Balearic Islands is measured when they arrive at the airport. They should wear masks in closed rooms and in busy public places. Groups of up to 15 people can go to the beach together, and the next group must be at a distance of two meters. This will also be monitored, said the regional president.

As part of a pilot program, according to the Funke newspapers, 4,000 to 5,000 tourists, especially from Germany, will be allowed to travel to the Balearic Islands again from June 15 to test the new processes. In the weeks after, Spain plans to open its borders to foreign tourists in general again.
