Mining cryptocurrency like bitcoins requires a lot of computing power. Cyber criminals therefore like to access your computers and infect them with crypto miners. Without your knowledge you then help the criminals to make a fortune. The scammers are currently disguising their malware as Google apps, among other things, in the hope that you will fall for it.
The mining campaign comes from the Nitrokod organization. They offer desktop applications from Google Translate, Microsoft Translate and YouTube Music on frequently visited websites, although these do not officially exist. To avoid detection of the malware, it is only fully installed weeks after the fake app has been downloaded. Only then does it connect to the attackers via a server and start digging.
According to The Hacker News, over 111,000 systems in 11 countries have been infected with the malware. She is also active in Germany. We advise you to obtain software only from official sources. Always check the manufacturer before downloading. With a comprehensive antivirus program, you can also protect yourself against such malware.
