Havertz shines and preserves Arsenal’s title dream

An emotional game in which Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta even prays: Arsenal FC first plays confidently against Tottenham Hotspur before things get very close. The victory allows the Gunners to continue to dream of the title – but Manchester City is also doing its job.

Thanks to national soccer player Kai Havertz, Arsenal FC can continue to dream of its first Premier League title in 20 years. In the north London derby at Tottenham Hotspur, the Gunners won 3-2 (3-0) and initially remained leaders with one point ahead of defending champions Manchester City, who laboriously won 2-0 (1-0) against relegation candidate Nottingham Forest. However, the Citizens have played one less game so far.

An own goal by former Bayern professional Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (15th) paved the way for Arsenal FC, coached by Mikel Arteta. After a strong diagonal pass from Havertz, Bukayo Saka increased the score (27′), and before the break the national striker scored his twelfth goal of the season (38′).

Timo Werner was substituted after half an hour at Spurs; the striker, who was no longer called up for the national team, limped after a challenge. The Spurs, who were by no means worse in terms of football, shortened the gap thanks to Cristian Romero (64th) and former Bundesliga professional Heung-Min Son (87th, penalty kick). “I was praying,” Arteta admitted after the game: “So many Spurs balls in our penalty area. It was a very emotional game in a great atmosphere against a very good team.”

Ortega replaced the injured Ederson after halftime

Former Leipzig player Josko Gvardiol (32nd) and striker Erling Haaland (71st), who came on after an hour, scored for City, keeping their team on track. Pep Guardiola’s star ensemble, which has surprisingly been embarrassed time and again by Forest, is still only one point behind Arsenal and has a catch-up game at Tottenham (May 14th) in hand. However, City regular keeper Ederson was injured. After the break, Guardiola brought in his strong number two, ex-Bielefeld Stefan Ortega.

Due to the success of the Gunners and the Citizens, Jürgen Klopp’s chances of a glorious farewell to Liverpool FC are becoming increasingly slim. The Reds only managed a 2-2 draw at West Ham United on Saturday and are five points behind Arsenal with three games to go.
