Man killed during a refusal to comply in Paris: a policeman referred for a possible indictment

The driver of a car that fled and hit another vehicle was fatally shot by police on Friday.

A 25-year-old police officer, who fatally injured the driver of a car during a refusal to comply on Friday in Paris, must be presented on Sunday afternoon to an investigating judge with a view to a possible review, a judicial source said.

On Friday October 14 around 7 p.m., the driver of a vehicle, which was also carrying two passengers, refused to obey the orders of the police. He had hit another vehicle while fleeing, which had prompted a response from the police. “Two police officers used their service weapon in the direction of the vehicle which drove off in their direction as they approached it“, had indicated to AFP a judicial source.

A judicial investigation has been opened for willful violence resulting in death without the intention of giving it, added this source, specifying that the prosecution had requested the placement under judicial supervision of the police officer. The custody of the second police officer, who had also opened fire, was however lifted without prosecution at this stage, she said.
