Man of the match – Milan oldie Giroud finishes off Salzburg’s young bulls

Ironically, the oldest outfield player on the pitch of the legendary San Siro eliminated Red Bull Salzburg! With two goals and two assists, the 36-year-old Frenchman became AC Milan’s man of the match in the showdown for promotion to the last 16 of the Champions League.

The first goal came in the 14th minute: Tonali ideally puts a corner kick into the middle, Solet is in a bad position and Giroud puts the powerful header into the net! Salzburg are pushing for an equaliser, but Salzburg’s young bulls weren’t nearly as tough as Milan. No wonder! With an average age of 21 years and 226 days, Salzburg started with the second youngest starting eleven of a team in CL history. Only 46 seconds were played after the restart when the Austrian champions conceded the 0:2 – and again the Frenchman was involved. Krunic used his header perfectly. Giroud then made it 3-0 himself after a cross pass from whirlwind Leao. He then prepared the 4:0 Messiah. But the game was decided long ago – thanks to Oldie Giroud.By the way: only Pippo Inzaghi, aged 37 years and 36 days, scored even older in the Champions League in a double.
