Man sentenced to jail for stealing trees


A man was sentenced on Tuesday to 18 months in prison, nine of which were suspended, for illegally cutting down hundreds of trees in France.

The prison sentence to which he was sentenced cannot be adjusted. Thirteen civil parties were recognized by the court. The damages will be quantified on April 26, but the court has already indicated that as a provision, 63,000 euros should be paid, or 4,000 euros per plaintiff.

His company, based in Lérida, had been confused thanks to the geolocation system of one of the trucks. Mr. Bautista’s lawyer, Mathieu Pons-Serradeil, indicated that he was going to appeal the judgment.
