Man seriously injured – paraglider crashes into avalanche barrier in Tyrol

A Tyrolean paraglider pilot was seriously injured in an accident on Friday: on the Innsbruck Nordkette the thermals were fatal for the 29-year-old, whereupon his legs got caught in an avalanche barrier.

The local started shortly before noon on Friday from the “Nordkette 2” starting point on the Innsbruck Seegrube. The 29-year-old had just raised his paraglider and was about to take off when a stall occurred. As a result, his paraglider lost altitude uncontrollably and the pilot got stuck in the avalanche barrier below the take-off point after a few meters. The man crashed into the barrier and seriously injured his legs. A witness gave the injured person first aid. He was then flown by emergency helicopter to the hospital in Hall in Tyrol.
