In Carcassonne, in Aude, a man who had just emerged from a 40-year-old coma was indicted for attempted homicide. For his part, his family filed a complaint for intentional assault and battery.

A difficult awakening. On June 23, a driver in his forties had embarked on a chase with the police in the streets of the center of Carcassonne, in Aude. The driver then had slightly injured a policeman with his vehiclebut for his part had been seriously hit by firearm.

The individual was then hospitalized. And when he wakes up, after 40 days of coma, he was presented this Tuesday, August 2 to the prosecution on his wheelchair and on oxygen, said his lawyer Franck Alberti. The man was finally indicted for “attempted murder of a person holding public authority”then placed under judicial supervision, reports Le Parisien.

Suspect’s family sues police

However, he could not be heard on the charges against him because he was again hospitalized at the Purpan University Hospital, in Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), due to an unexplained high fever. The prosecution, which had requested his placement in pre-trial detention, appealed.

For their part, the suspect’s family had lodged a complaint with the Carcassonne public prosecutor’s office for intentional assault and battery. She asserted that he had been hit by police fire after getting out of his vehicle. To reinforce their remarks, the family relied on a video of the arrest shot by a local resident. The Marseille IGPN was then seized for “willful violence with a weapon by persons holding public authority”.
