Viewers want to have discovered how the singer coked the ESC winner Maneskin. Damiano David would like to be tested on Monday.

Maneskin were overjoyed that they won the 65th Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) on May 22nd with the song “Zitti e buoni”. The joy was quickly overshadowed by allegations that Damiano David (22), the singer of the Italian rock band, allegedly consumed cocaine during the show. On British Breakfast TV, the group talks about how painful these allegations hurt.

In the program “BBC Breakfast” explained David first of all, what had happened. As he had already said at a press conference, guitarist Thomas Raggi broke a glass that the singer had leaned down to. During the live broadcast, however, it looked to some viewers as if David might have sniffed cocaine from a table. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) later confirmed that broken pieces had actually been found in the appropriate place.

Only “young people with a huge passion for music”

The allegations that he used drugs are “really hurtful,” says David. There are “monstrous” allegations. The band members are just “young people with a huge passion for music”. Bassist Victoria De Angelis also said the claims saddened the band as the group wanted to convey a “positive message”.

They confirmed that David would have a drug test that morning. The musicians had previously stated that they would do this voluntarily. The EBU confirmed that the band had asked for a corresponding test after the ESC, but could not have organized this at such short notice. The results are not yet available.
