Kodansha will soon launch its own application which could allow you to read several hundred titles.

The war against manga scan piracy has many sides. While court convictions have been on the rise in recent years, publishers have finally taken the plunge to offer digital versions of their works. And it’s Kodansha’s turn to do it!

Make way for K Manga!

Did Kodansha want to follow the example of his lifelong rival, Shueisha? The historic editor of One Piece Since 2019, it has been offering a MANGA Plus application and website through which it publishes the latest chapters of its great titles, to the delight of its fans.

A little alone in this niche, MANGA Plus will now have to cohabit with the K Manga application, which Kodansha will launch on May 10. This application should quickly find its audience, with some 400 titles to be offered as well as new chapters of the publisher’s most popular series.

To understand how important the news is, it is enough to quote some of the works that the Japanese group holds in its hands: The attack of the Titans, tokyo revenge, Blue Lock, Fairy Tail and others Ghost in the Shell belong in particular to the catalog of the old house.

Free, but not only

But if the announcement has something to excite many manga enthusiasts, it was not accompanied by many details as to the means of access to the works. We simply know that it will be possible to read limited manga chapters for free “, an option surely intended for the last deliveries.

Will a subscription for unlimited reading be offered? Will advertising fund free readings? And if so, what will be the scope of this free? So many questions that have not yet found answers. In comparison, MANGA Plus allows you to read the first three, and especially the last three chapters of each series for free.

In addition to easier accessibility, Kodansha promises ” official translations “, making a hollow reference to the pirate translations, of lesser quality. What convince readers, many of whom are used to throwing themselves on the first leaked outings of their favorite series?
