Manhunt for trucks – caught upside down in the car: woman alerted daughter

A spectacular traffic accident in the Tyrolean lowlands still employs the police. A local (49) had to drive back on Thierseestraße on Tuesday evening because of an unknown heavy vehicle, which ended fatally with a 50-meter fall into the adjacent forest. The trapped injured person was able to contact the daughter via cell phone. The police are still looking for the suspected Polish truck that caused the woman’s crash.

The dramatic incident occurred when the driver (59) of the small car was driving into the valley at around 6.40 p.m.: In a right-hand bend, a truck came towards the woman, which swerved unusually far and apparently without considering oncoming traffic to her side. The driver reacted: “In order to avoid a collision, she put the car in reverse and backed up a few meters,” the police later determined. However, the car went over the edge of the road and fell about 50 meters over the steep forest terrain. The vehicle landed on the roof and the woman was trapped. The woman was still able to call for help on her cell phone. Apparently, despite the injury, she was able to use her cell phone to alert her daughter, who called the police. Relatives then came to the crash site and were relieved given the circumstances that the injuries were not too bad. “We routinely rescued the woman with the stretcher in cooperation with the fire department,” says Gerhard Radlherr, local manager of the Kufstein mountain rescue service. The fire brigade was at the scene of the accident with three vehicles and 25 men, the rescue team with two cars and a total of nine helpers. Meanwhile, the police are still looking for the unknown truck driver. “It must have been a Polish or Romanian truck. According to witnesses, the driver stopped below the scene of the accident and switched on the hazard warning lights. Then he drove on,” says one officer. It’s hard to imagine that he didn’t notice the crash. Who saw the truck on Thierseestrasse? “Unfortunately, we don’t have a more detailed description of the truck made corresponding observations on Thierseestraße at this time should contact the Kufstein police, please call: 059 133/7210.
