On Friday night, a deportee from Libya managed to escape from the detention center in Vordernberg in Upper Styria. Only three weeks ago, four men escaped from there – one of them successfully. The manhunt is ongoing.
In the middle of the night, at around 1 a.m. on Friday, the Libyan attempted to flee – and has been missing ever since. The 32-year-old had only been in deportation custody since August 20th because he was staying in Austria illegally. He was waiting there, according to the police, for his “stay-ending measure” – in other words, he was to be taken out of the country. The Libyan fled “with extreme effort” and “in an adventurous manner – he also showed no consideration for his physical integrity”. The escape cannot be described more precisely because they want to avoid imitations, says police spokesman Heimo Kohlbacher. All he can say is that there were jumps from great heights. Fled without clothesAfter the escape, the North African is believed to have first stolen a bicycle in Vordernberg, then a car. “The man could still use this car, a gray Mitsubishi pick-up with LN license plates,” they say. The manhunt is now underway: the man is 1.90 meters tall, has a bald head and fled without any clothes. The police are asking the public for useful information by calling 133. There is currently no danger. Four inmates escaped from the deportation center at the beginning of August. One of them is still on the run. “Evaluations are underway as to how this could be avoided in the future,” says spokesman Kohlbacher.
