Previously coordinator of the operational team of La France insoumise, Manuel Bompard was unanimously appointed coordinator of the party, announced the direction of the movement. The deputy for the 4th constituency of Bouches-du-Rhône had indicated in December that he would probably “continue” this task.

Deputy Manuel Bompard was appointed coordinator of La France insoumise “unanimously” by the movement’s leadership, the latter announced to AFP, while a first meeting of the “political council” bringing together other leaders will take place on January 16. Manuel Bompard, close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, had indicated in December that he would probably “continue” this task, which he had been performing since the withdrawal in September of Adrien Quatennens, convicted of domestic violence. The absence, among the 21 members of the “coordination”, of personalities like Alexis Corbière, Clémentine Autain or even François Ruffin triggered the anger of these and part of the militant base in December.

A first political council on January 16

“We think that when we defend the Sixth Republic, it’s important to show in our operating model how we too are bringing democracy to life”, repeated Clémentine Autain on Wednesday, who asked for a “dialogue” for a better representativeness in coordination. A larger body put forward to calm the revolt, the first session of the political council will take place “on Monday January 16 with in particular the representatives of the forces associated with LFI”, indicated the coordination.

“This council is intended to meet at least every month and to discuss LFI’s strategic orientations,” she explained. The management is also working on the implementation of discussion groups at the level of the departments, the “launch of training and popular cafes, financing of local actions, HQ in the departments” and other measures announced in December to further anchor the movement on field.
