After the Quatennens affair, rebellious France turns the page, but too suddenly according to some. Manuel Bompard, Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s most faithful comrade, took the place of the former presidential candidate on Monday at the head of the party. But unlike the Republicans or Europe Ecology-The Greens this weekend, there was no vote among the rebellious or consultation of activists and executives. Something to sow discord internally.
A setting aside of the other headliners?
“It’s almost a purge”, stings MEP Leïla Chaibi in front of the sidelining of the tenors of the movement like Clémentine Autain, Éric Coquerel, François Ruffin or Alexis Corbière. Very bitter, Clémentine Autain denounces a sudden withdrawal and locking. But Jean-Luc Mélenchon did not support the criticism and accuses the deputy of Seine-Saint-Denis of dirtying it.
The atmosphere is completely new in rebellious France, which is nevertheless renowned for its internal discipline. Then the new leaders justify themselves. “We are no less democratic than elsewhere,” replies Manuel Bompard. But the reality is simple: the elected officials removed from the leadership had already begun to position themselves for 2027. So, with his followers at the head of the movement, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is certain to be able to return at any time.
