Many ice creams containing a carcinogenic product subject to a recall procedure

The Auchan coffee ice cream tray, Picard profiteroles, La Laitière exotic mango sorbet, Pistachio ice cream with Leader Price caramelized pistachio chips… All these products have been added to the long list – 7,000 references – of food batches targeted by a “withdrawal / recall” procedure, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) reported on Tuesday (June 15th) in a press release. They contain ethylene oxide, a product classified as carcinogenic and banned in the European Union since 2011.

Health authorities “Are not aware of reports of consumer poisoning with ethylene oxide in connection with the recalled products”, however specifies the authority.

For more than ten months, “More than seven thousand batches of products” food have been recalled by health authorities for the presence of ethylene oxide, said the DGCCRF.

The origin of these recalls dates back to September 9, 2020, when“An Italian operator [s’était rendu compte] that sesame seeds imported from India contain[ai]ent ethylene oxide residues’, had explained a Senate report last February.
