What’s going on in Silverstone? Several well-known motorbike drivers already go down in the free practice sessions. The most prominent of them all is Marc Marquez (Sp), eight-time world champion from Spain. At 270 km / h on the way, he loses the front wheel when approaching a curve – sparks fly, Marquez rushes over the asphalt and the grass before he finally comes to a standstill.
After all: he remains unharmed. Nevertheless, he drives to the hospital. Why? “I got a little mess in my eye. As a result, my eye was watering all the time in the second training session. ” The view was not impaired, but he felt sand in his eye. “That’s why everything was cleaned in the hospital.”
First pain, then record
Fabio Quartararo (Fr) is on the road with his crash at a slower pace than Marquez. But this is even more violent. The leader in the Moto GP classification holds his left ankle for a long time after take-off – his motorcycle hit it. Quartaro doubles in pain, but sits back on his bolide and even sets a lap record. Hard to believe.
By the way: Marc Marquez’s brother Alex also crashed in free practice – and even twice. And in Moto-2, the Brit Sam Lowes gets caught.
The cold tires are apparently responsible for a large part of all falls.
