The march against anti-Semitism, initiated by the presidents of the National Assembly and the Senate, will bring together a large part of the political sphere on Sunday. If the presence of the National Rally continues to be controversial, La France insoumise has announced that it will not participate. What about the President of the Republic?
Two former presidents, François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy, confirmed their presence at the march against anti-Semitism on Sunday in Paris. But Emmanuel Macron has still not said whether he will participate in the demonstration. Why is the head of state so hesitant?
Emmanuel Macron remains cautious
The President of the Republic is fumbling but he also does not want to appear in the background, which is why he will speak on Sunday, assures one of his advisors. Emmanuel Macron’s two predecessors have confirmed their presence. François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy will parade at the head of the procession, alongside the presidents of the two houses of Parliament, but also Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne and representatives of religions.
The main opposition party in the Assembly, the National Rally, will remain at a good distance from this head of the procession. Pointing out its anti-Semitic roots, the Renaissance presidential party, like the ecologists, socialists and communists, have in fact called for a physical separation with the party of Marine Le Pen, with the aim of closing all the protests generated by the arrival of the RN .
The two organizers of the march, the President of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, and the President of the Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, published a joint press release Thursday evening calling for an end to unnecessary controversies.
