Maria dream: Karin Viard and Grégory Gadebois in a comedy on female emancipation to see at the cinema

Karin Viard and Grégory Gadebois touch the heart with Maria rêve, an inspired and delicate comedy about female emancipation in the cinema this Wednesday. A romance with “a delicate vibrato in which everyone finds themselves” according to Karin Viard

What is it about ?

Maria is a cleaning lady. Married for 25 years, reserved, shy and clumsy, she never leaves her flowery notebook in which she writes poems in secret. When she is assigned to the École des Beaux-Arts, she meets Hubert, the school’s whimsical guardian, and discovers a fascinating place where freedom, creativity and daring reign… In this world so new , Maria, who has always been devoted and discreet, will she finally allow herself to be invaded by life?

After several acclaimed short films, including Pile Poil (awarded at the Alpe d’Huez Comedy Festival and César for best short film in 2020), the duo of screenwriters and directors Lauriane Escaffre and Yvo Muller unveil their first feature film.

Maria rêve picks us up thanks to her neat writing, endearing characters, and a romance that also aims to talk about female emancipation, and bring to the fore characters less visible in the cinema.

As Karin Viard told us at our microphone, the film wants “restore letters of nobility to these characters“. For the actress who plays Maria, this housekeeper, who seems to be missing out on her life a little, “talk about these invisibles to something quite universal“. We met the duo Karin Viard and Grégory Gadebois, and the directors Lauriane Escaffre and Yvo Muller. To discover in video.

Maria rêve is out in theaters this Wednesday, September 28.
