The German actress and director Maria Schrader is expected to direct a film about the revelations in the Weinstein case.

Maria Schrader (55) is to direct “She Said”, a film about the revelations in the Weinstein case. This is reported by the US industry magazine “Deadline”. The German actress and director is expected to shoot with Carey Mulligan (36) and Zoe Kazan (37), who, according to the report, are currently in negotiations for the leading roles.

The film is said to revolve around the work of the two journalists Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, whose “New York Times” reports on the sexual assault of the fallen Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein also sparked the #MeToo debate. The former film producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape in early 2020. He appealed in April 2021.

Weinstein is not the focus

The focus of the film, which is based on the bestseller “She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement” by Kantor and Twohey, is the research of the journalists who have been awarded the Pulitzer Prize. According to the report, Universal Pictures is currently preparing for production, which is due to start in the summer.

A few months ago, Schrader was the first German female director to receive the Emmy Award for her Netflix miniseries “Unorthodox”. The script for “She Said” is said to come from the writer Rebecca Lenkiewicz.
