What is true for film also counts for music: streaming is becoming increasingly popular. Mariah Carey set a new record.
The music streaming sector is still on the rise in Germany. As GfK Entertainment announced, an impressive 139 million music streams were generated in this country in 2020. That is almost a third more than in 2019 and three quarters more than two years ago. This means that audio streaming is increasingly becoming the format with the highest sales on the German music market.
In the "Most streamed song within 24 hours" category, Mariah Carey (50) set a new record on Christmas Eve with her Christmas hit "All I Want For Christmas Is You" with 4.5 million clicks. Carey exceeded its own record from the previous year by 1.3 million hits. In second place is "Last Christmas" by Wham! with an equally strong 4.2 million streams.
