Marilyn Monroe: the incredible investigation that lifted the mystery about her father

She was born of an unknown father… However, her parent has just been identified. Strange fate that of the Hollywood star, whose sixtieth anniversary of his disappearance will be commemorated in August. To be found in Heritage, Thursday May 19 at 9:10 p.m. on NRJ12.

She was singing My Heart Belongs to Daddy (My heart belongs to dad). All her life, she searched for herself, in search of notoriety, professional recognition and above all… her biological father. She had only seen him in a photograph in her mother’s bedroom, intuitively convinced that the lookalike lover of Clark Gable was his parent. Charles Stanley Gifford had actually started an affair with his mother, Gladys, in 1925. Norma Jean Baker was born on 1er June 1926.

French producer and director Francois Pomes therefore set out to go back to the origins of the star four years ago. He first appealed to fans, collectors or fetishists. Without success. One day, he buys three bleached hairs from the star’s personal hairdresser. Disappointed hope, because the DNA analysis does not give anything. It is finally three hairs, kept by the undertaker of celebrities in Hollywood who carried out Marilyn’s mortuary toilet on August 5, 1962, which will reveal the truth. They are sent to the CNRS in Toulouse. Luckily, the spotted DNA was not completely altered. At the same time, genealogists find the trace of Gifford’s granddaughter.

Three hairs will make the DNA speak

The two DNAs are then compared. Nothing conclusive at first, before a second analysis confirms that the foreman who had fallen in love with Gladys Monroe is indeed her biological father. It’s still too early to know if this revelation will put the identity of Marilyn’s heir into question. Elena Balieva, project manager at Carson Prod, tells us in legacies how the star’s image rights ended up in the hands of a woman unrelated to the actress. This is’Anna Strasberg, the second wife of Lee Strasberg, artistic director of the Actors Studio. “When she died, Marilyn only had $92,000 in her accounts, which she distributed, by will, right and left. The main part of the inheritance was her image rights, up to $800,000”, explains Elena Balieva. The star’s psychologist inherited the quarter, and the rest went to Lee. After her husband’s death in 1982, Anna took over and has managed the use of Marilyn’s image for forty years. At 83, she intends to pass on this lifetime pension to her children … who could quickly be deprived of it.
