Nintendo released a special video message featuring Shigeru Miyamoto and Charles Martinet.
The latter allows us to return to the change of actor lending his voice (among others) to Mario, without however explaining the why or the after.
Charles Martinet is leaving, but who will replace him?
Since 1996, Californian voice actor Charles Martinet has lent his voice to the character of Super Mario, but also to Luigi, Waluigi and Wario. We have known it for a few weeks, but after several years of good and loyal service, and today aged 67, Charles Martinet will hand over his hand (or rather his voice). Mario will now be voiced by another actor, which was already the case in the film adaptation. In order to explain this choice to fans (and reassure them), Nintendo published a short video on its networks.
It was an opportunity for some to discover for the first time the face that hides behind this so characteristic voice, but also to find the essential Shigeru Miyamoto. For nearly 4 minutes, in a tribute-style video, the two men look back on their history and their mutual attachment, while reminding (several times) fans that Charles Martinet will become Mario ambassador at trade shows around the world.
But then, in the absence of Charles Martinet, who will ensure the dubbing of Mario, Luigi, Waluigi and others in the future Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the games to come? Well, it’s still and always a mystery that Nintendo seems determined to maintain (as much as possible) until the game’s release on Nintendo Switch on October 20th.
In addition, many are those who believe that this video published by Nintendo does not in any way explain this change of dubbing, Charles Martinet seeming perfectly able to continue to double the famous plumber and his clique. To be continued. Woohoo!
