Since 2016, the AFCAE and the CICAE (International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas), in partnership with Europa Cinemas, have been honoring European cinema classified as arthouse through the European Cinema Arthouse Day. On November 12, the event celebrated its eighth edition and, once again, thrilled moviegoers through a horde of luminous events.

REVIEW OF THE 8TH ART AND TESTING DAY OF EUROPEAN CINEMA

In all, more than 600 cinemas from 37 countries around the world (mainly from Europe, but also from Argentina and South Korea) took part in this full day thanks to previews, meetings with filmmakers and film crews, or even workshops and activities for young people. In France alone, 187 arthouse theaters came together, bringing together more than 30,250 spectators.

Screened live or delayed in theaters, two special screenings (for two films supported by the AFCAE), allowed audiences in 23 theaters to attend the meeting with filmmaker Mattéo Garrone following the screening of his film Moi Capitaine, in partnership with the Arras Festival, and meeting the filmmaker Mona Achache and the actress Marion Cotillard, after the film Little Girl Blue, at the Méliès in Montreuil.

London filmmaker Molly Manning Walker was present (and on the same day!) at the Le Grand Action cinema in Paris, then at the Katorza in Nantes, to present her film How to Have Sex: favorite of the Committee 15-25 of the AFCAE, and which created a sensation at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

But that’s not all, since participants were also able to experience many other events offered in the participating rooms, such as the mobilization of a food truck in front of the Espace François Mitterrand cinema in Tarascon, or a video message recorded by the director Benoît Chieux for the attention of young spectators of his film Sirocco and the Kingdom of Air Currents. An eighth edition which announces the best for the future!
