German acting star Jan Fedder (1955-2019, "Großstadtrevier") died on December 30, 2019 at the age of 64 in Hamburg. On January 14, his family, friends and fans said goodbye to him in his hometown. The funeral service, which included, among other things, a service in Michel in Hamburg and a journey of the hearse across the Reeperbahn, was "simply unforgettable and beautiful", "that makes your heart hurt," says Marion Fedder (54) in a letter that published the "Bild" newspaper.
"Since Tuesday last week, the moving pictures have not left my head: first the moving and beautiful funeral service at Michel, then the many sad and moving people on the streets," continues the widow of the popular TV star. Her husband had planned his funeral exactly and written the appropriate script. Marion Fedder is certain that he would have "loved" the ultimate implementation of his ideas. The sympathy of the many people on the streets would have even "far exceeded" his ideas.
With his roles, he will be remembered forever
The TV viewers also wanted to say goodbye: The funeral service for the actor was broadcast by Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and 36.7 percent (880,000) of the North German viewers tuned in. Nationwide, 1.5 million watched the moving farewell. Everyone involved, especially the police and the NDR, had "done an incredible job," said Marion Fedder. Her thanks also go to Pastor Röder, the Hamburgers on the streets, and Jörg, her husband's best friend, without whom she would "never have made it and survived".
Now she had to breathe deeply and give room for her grief. She wants to follow her husband's advice: "'When I am no longer there, watch one of my 650 films. Then I will sit next to you on the sofa and be with you.' I do that a lot now. And certainly many others. "
