Darth Vader actor David Prowse is dead. His fellow actor Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, also mourns him.

He embodied one of the most famous characters in film history. David Prowse (1935-2020), the man under the mask of Darth Vader, died at the age of 85 after a brief illness. In the original trilogy (1977, 1980, 1983) he played the world-famous "Star Wars" villain, James Earl Jones (89) gave the character the voice. Mark Hamill, 69, who gave the Luke Skywalker, recalls on twitter and Instagram with warm words to his colleagues.

He loved his fans

It is "so sad" to hear of Prowse's death, writes Hamill. His former colleague was "a kind man and so much more than Darth Vader", namely an "actor, father, husband, member of the Order of the British Empire, winner of the British Weightlifting Championships and the safety icon Green Cross Code Man" . The latter is a superhero character who has been campaigning for road safety since the 1970s.

According to Hamill, Prowse "loved his fans as much as they loved him". David Prowse was born in Bristol. He supposedly got the role as "Darth Vader" mainly because of his height of about two meters and his experience as a weightlifter. He was also seen in "Uhrwerk Orange" (1972) and "Circus der Vampire" (1972).
