After 18 years it’s over: Mark Harmon alias Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs has dropped out of the US crime series “Navy CIS”.

After 18 years, actor Mark Harmon (70) has left the US crime series “Navy CIS”. In it he played Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. He had been speculating about his exit for several months. The time has come in the current season.

Warning – spoilers

The series is currently in its 19th season in the United States. In the fourth episode, Gibbs announces, according to US media reports, not to return to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). Together with Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) he has just solved the case of a contract killer in Alaska. And there “found his peace”, so Gibbs in the episode.

But a return does not seem entirely absurd. In a statement on Instagram, showrunner Steven D. Binder (50) saidthat Mark Harmon “as executive producer and good friend (…) continues to be an integral part of the series”. “As for the future of Gibbs, longtime fans of the show may have noticed over the years that Leroy Jethro Gibbs should never be given up.”

“Navy CIS” has been running since 2003. Mark Harmon has been the lead actor from season one. In Germany, the 18th season can currently be seen on Sat.1. It is not yet known when the 19th season will start in this country.
