Market: ASML reports fire at its Berlin plant

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – ASML Holding announced on Monday that a fire had broken out at its Berlin plant without causing any injuries, adding that it was premature at this stage to advance an assessment of its operational impact.

The Dutch semiconductor equipment maker, a leading supplier to the industry, is currently operating at full capacity due to a global shortage of electronic components. A delay in its production could therefore have a significant impact on its customers, who themselves try to increase their production rates.

The Berlin plant manufactures components for lithography systems, equipment that creates circuits for electronic chips.

“At this point, it is too early to communicate on the damage or say if the incident will have an impact on the production plan for this year,” said ASML, estimating that it would take several days to assess the damage.

ASML stock, which was up about 1% before the group’s announcement, fell on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 0.35% to 703.9 euros around 3:30 p.m. GMT.
