Market: gloomy atmosphere after a further drop in PMI


(CercleFinance.com) – After their takeoff the day before (+4.2% in Paris, +3.7% in Frankfurt and 2.7% in London), the main European stock markets are down this morning: Frankfurt and Paris are down 0.7 %, ahead of London (-1.1%).

In addition to profit-taking, investors had to deal with the publication of the final PMI Composite index for the euro zone. It posted a third consecutive monthly decline, with the index falling from 49.8 (August) to 48.8 (September), and reaching its lowest level in 19 months.

Investors were also able to take note of a further decline in the trade surplus in Germany, which fell from 3.4 billion euros in July to 1.2 billion euros in August, according to data adjusted for seasonal and calendar variations from Destatis .

The federal statistics office explains that this decline compared to July reflects a 3.4% increase in imports to 131.9 billion euros, an increase therefore exceeding the 1.6% growth in exports to 133.1 billion. .

This afternoon, operators will be paying attention to several statistical data in the United States, such as the results of the ADP survey for the private sector for September, the trade balance for August or even the latest composite PMI and ISM non- manufacturer.

In company news, Holcim announces that it has completed the acquisition of Izolbet, a specialist building solutions market player in Poland, which has achieved double-digit sales and EBITDA growth over the past three years .

Tesco has a turnover of 32.5 billion pounds sterling, up 6.7% in the first half. Adjusted operating profit was £1.315 billion, down 9.8%. Adjusted diluted EPS is at 10.67p (+4.9%).
