Market: Greece to grant more aid in the face of rising energy prices

ATHENS (Reuters) – Greece will provide further financial support to households, businesses and farmers facing increased spending from soaring energy prices, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Saturday.

Natural gas prices have reached record highs in recent months as the post-COVID economic recovery has pushed energy costs up in Europe.

The Strike has already taken support measures, such as helping to pay electricity bills and increasing aid for low-income households to help them buy fuel oil for the winter period.

“We have already put up a strong wall to protect ourselves from rising energy prices,” the Greek prime minister during a debate in parliament ahead of a vote on the 2022 budget.

“To respond to the current situation, I am announcing new aid,” he added.

The total cost of the aid announced will amount to 1.35 billion euros.
