Market: SoftBank wants to invest in AI after Arm-FT’s IPO

(Reuters) – SoftBank is seeking artificial intelligence (AI) deals, including a potential investment in OpenAI, following the listing of its Arm unit, the Financial reported Times Saturday.

SoftBank founder and chief executive Masayoshi Son is seeking to invest tens of billions of dollars in AI, the newspaper said, citing two people familiar with his thoughts.

The Japanese technology investment company could also try to enter into a broad strategic partnership with the maker of ChatGPT, according to the FT.

SoftBank is also exploring a series of alternatives to OpenAI, including a preliminary approach to buy Graphcore, a UK-based AI chip maker, the report added.
