Marseille: a man shot dead in a city of the 15th arrondissement


A man in his twenties was shot dead in a city in the working-class neighborhoods north of Marseille on Monday, against a background of drug trafficking.

Un new drama in the heart of Marseille. A man was shot dead in a city in the working-class neighborhoods in the north of the city on Monday evening, June 5, around 9:30 p.m., Agence France-Presse learned from a police source and from the emergency services. The victim is in his twenties, said the Marseille firefighters, called to the scene around 9:30 p.m., confirming the initial information from BFM Marseille Provence.

The investigation was entrusted to the judicial police, said the Bouches-du-Rhône police headquarters. The city of Castellas, in the 15th arrondissement of the second city of France, had already been bereaved on the night of April 3, when two men aged 21 and 23 had lost their lives, fatally affected in a shooting.

The same night, two teenagers aged 15 and 16 were also shot dead, in the Joliette district, in the port area, visibly victims of a sponsored killer following the shots a few minutes earlier cited from Castellas. This supposed hitman, arrested three days later, is himself an 18-year-old teenager.

The city of Castellas is one of those many cities in the northern districts of Marseille plagued by drug trafficking and the settling of scores between warring gangs to share a market that can generate up to 80,000 euros per day on “plans most profitable narcotics.

If this new homicide is indeed linked to drug trafficking, it would be the 23e of the year in Marseille in just over five months, according to figures from Agence France-Presse. 32 people had lost their lives in 2022 in the Bouches-du-Rhône, against a backdrop of drug trafficking.
