Martin Garrix has released the official EM song. For “We Are The People” the DJ worked with two U2 members.
The official song for the 2021 European Football Championship comes from the Dutch DJ Martin Garrix. Just in time for its 25th birthday, Sony Music Netherlands announced the release of “We Are The People”. The song was created in collaboration with U2 members Bono (61) and The Edge (59) and was in the works for three years. Singer Bono gives the song his voice, The Edge contributes the guitar riffs. “Creating the music for one of the biggest sporting events in the world with Bono and The Edge was an incredible experience. I’m very proud of what we’ve done together and I’m excited to finally share it with the world!” explains Garrix.
As the message goes on to say, “We Are The People” aims to counteract the positivity, hope and determination that are essential to a team’s success. In addition, a feeling of togetherness and unity should be conveyed. Martin Garrix also produced the official opening and tournament music.
The 2021 European Football Championship starts on June 11 in Rome. In the opening game, Turkey will play against Italy. For the first time in the history of the competition, the European Championship will take place across the continent. The teams will compete in eleven cities, including Glasgow, Munich, Saint Petersburg, Budapest and Copenhagen. The final will take place on July 11th at Wembley Stadium in London. The tournament was supposed to take place last year, but had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic.
