Martin Zubimendi: FC Bayern deals with “sixers” from Spain – Reschke defends Kimmich, who is in poor form

Instead of Palhinha? FC Bayern is concerned with alternatives

Declan Rice and João Palhinha were on the list, but nothing came of these transfers at Bayern in the summer. Apparently the people of Munich are now thinking about a Spanish winner. Meanwhile, debate continues about leader Joshua Kimmich.

FC Bayern are reportedly looking into Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad San Sebastian. This is reported by “Sport Bild” without citing a source. The 24-year-old Zubimendi, who plays in defensive midfield, is therefore an issue for the Munich team. His contract with the Spanish first division club runs until the summer of 2027. Coach Thomas Tuchel would like to have a midfielder who primarily thinks defensively; he sees Joshua Kimmich as being a bit more offensive.

“If he has a ball-conquering clearer next to him who keeps his position and his back free, then he can best use his running strength and creativity. If he clearly has to maintain the defensive position on the six, like a clearer, that’s his game too much of his outstanding offensive quality has been lost. I prefer to see him on the eight,” said the former technical director of the German soccer record champions, Michael Reschke, to the TV station Sport1 about Kimmich.

According to FC Bayern’s former squad planner, Kimmich is currently not having his best phase. However, the 28-year-old is often unfairly criticized. “You just have to think about how much top foreign trainers rave about Jo and hold him in high esteem. And for us, when it comes to Jo, it’s far too often about constructing negative news and consciously looking for mistakes,” said Reschke. “But one thing is certain: Jo will fight her way out of this.”

Tuchel wanted a real clearer and stabilizer like Declan Rice in the summer. The English international moved from West Ham United to Arsenal for a fee of more than 100 million euros in the Premier League. On the final day of the transfer period, the transfer of Portuguese international João Palhinha fell through. Instead, he extended his contract with Fulham FC until the end of June 2028. The club also has an option for another season.
