In January, Martina Navratilova announced that she had throat and breast cancer. Now she is apparently cancer-free.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova (66) has apparently beaten cancer. The former athlete tells this on March 21 on TV, like British media, including the Times, report unanimously. “As far as you know, I’m cancer-free,” explains Navratilova according to the “Sun” in conversation with Piers Morgan (57) accordingly in a program that is to be shown on Tuesday. But she still had to endure preventive radiation treatment for two weeks.

“This double whammy is serious but still repairable. I’m hoping for a positive outcome. It will be difficult for a while but I will fight with everything I have”, Navratilova declared in January and made it public that she had throat and breast cancer.

“I will see this Christmas, but maybe not the next”

She was diagnosed for the first time in December. On a Friday afternoon, a doctor told her she was ill, but they had yet to find out what cancer it was. She didn’t find out until the following Monday that it was throat cancer. “I will experience this Christmas, but maybe not the next one,” Navratilova thought at the time.

Fortunately, however, she was told by the doctors that it was a treatable form and that she had a “95 percent chance” of a full recovery. Breast cancer was then diagnosed with positron emission tomography. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 and was considered cancer-free after subsequent treatment.

The double diagnosis was an “up and down” for Navratilova. At first she thought she could die from throat cancer, but then found out that it was easily treatable. “It doesn’t look good,” her doctor then said during a biopsy of her breast.

“I didn’t realize it was going to be so hard”

“I knew it was going to be tough, but I didn’t realize it was going to be as tough as it really was,” Navratilova said in the interview. Eating was particularly difficult. She lost 15 pounds – not because she wanted to, but because she couldn’t eat enough. Because of the treatment, she couldn’t even yawn or sneeze properly.

Her wife Julia Lemigova (50) recently stated that the couple had initially put off adoption plans. Lemigova, to whom she has been married since 2014, had according to the US magazine “People” on a reality show The Real Housewives of Miami reunion show that the couple have “put their adoption plans on hold.” Navratilova, who doesn’t think it could work after all, has now confirmed this: “I think it’s just too complicated and I only have limited energy right now.”
