Marvel: bad news for future Disney+ series

The ongoing Hollywood strikes continue to strike: here are five Disney+ series impacted.

Strikes by writers and actors are still raging in the United States and it is now the turn of many Marvel series from Disney + to pay the price and see their release delayed. Here is what it is.

IRONHEART

iron heart, which will feature the heroine of the same name who made her MCU debut last year in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was originally slated to debut on Disney+ this fall. According to The Hollywood Reporter (via ComingSoon), even though its filming has wrapped, the show has been removed from the schedule with no new release date window announced.

X-MEN ’97

Another impacted series, the anime X-Men ’97 which was to be released this fall as well. This time, The Hollywood Reporter reports that the series will air in early 2024 instead. Described as “a retro love letter to the original X-Men animated series,” X-Men ’97 already has a second season in the works, also probably affected by the strikes.

WHAT IF…? (SEASON 2)

As for the anime series season 2 What If…?originally slated for early 2023, a release that was obviously missed, it is now expected to debut around December 25 next year – almost two years after its season 1. Previously released footage from the second season included a young Peter Quill with his father, Ego, a giant Iron Man, and the news that the season would cover Neil Gaiman’s 1602 comic, which featured Marvel characters as they would be in Elizabethan times.

ECHO

The next series Echohas also had its release date delayed, which means that it will unfortunately no longer debut on November 29th but in January 2024. No specific day has been set at this time.

Echo will mark the return of Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez after her debut in Hawkeye last year, where it was revealed that Maya was linked to Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. Charlie Cox will also return as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.

In the Marvel comics, Echo – the adopted daughter of the Kingpin – is a deaf Native American woman who possesses the ability to perfectly copy the moves of others while being a skilled martial artist and acrobat.

AGATHA: DARKHOLD DIARIES

The next WandaVision spin-off is getting a new title and a new approximate release date.

Now called Agatha: Darkhold Diariesthe series, which was supposed to see the light of day in winter 2023 will finally be released in early fall 2024 and will see Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness who caused a stir in Wanda Vision. For her performance, she also earned an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

The series will mark the arrival of MCU newcomers Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, and Patti LuPone, among others. Rumor has it that Joe Locke will play the male lead and Patti LuPone the Sicilian witch Lilia Calderu.
