Marvel: Doctor Strange 2 and Moon Knight are they related?

As Moon Knight episodes and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness teasers roll in, there are some details that suggest the two Marvel projects might be related. Warning, spoilers.

Warning, spoilers. It is advisable to be up to date on the Moon Knight series.

While the Moon Knight series with Oscar Isaac continues to air on Disney+, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reveals itself a little more with many teasers a few weeks before its theatrical release.

Even if the two characters have nothing in common, it seems undeniable that there is a connection, small or important, between the two Marvel projects. Especially since the end of Moon Knight will be posted on the day of the release of the sequel to Doctor Strange in cinemas.

But it is on the side of the latest teasers of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that we must turn to see the beginning of a link with the Moon Knight series. In this spot called “Reckoning”, an alternate version of Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is seen fighting a creature with America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) in another dimension. And the magic he uses has a different color from those used (green and red) by the Stephen Strange of the universe that we know.

Between magic and divinity

The wizard uses white-colored magic, similar to that of Selim (Khalid Abdalla), the avatar of Osiris, to subdue Khonshu who tries to attack Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) in episode 3 of Moon Knight .

Magic is obviously at the heart of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with the presence of Strange and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and it should play tricks on our heroes, especially Wanda, who still has psychological consequences following the events of Westview in WandaVision.

Besides magic, Moon Knight and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could be related through deities. The latter are very present in the Marvel series carried by Oscar Isaac, through the Ennead, bringing together the ancient gods of Egyptian mythology, Osiris, Horus, Tefnut, Shu, Atum, Hathor, Isis, Khonshu and Ammit.

In the comics, the Enneads are the gods of Egypt, once worshiped by humans and hailing from Heliopolis, a small dimension adjacent to Earth. And the interdimensional link between Heliopolis and Earth is located in Egypt. This link is also called a Nexus, a term already used and seen in WandaVision (especially in advertisements), which designates a cosmic phenomenon that links the entire multiverse via interdimensional portals and which allows passage from one universe to another.

Scarlet Witch, an avatar?

The madness of the multiverse announced in this second part of Doctor Strange opens the door to numerous appearances in the film of mythical characters, new or old, but also to divinities.

Some rumors suggest that Chthon could appear in the feature film. And Chthon is one of the most powerful Elder Gods to have degenerated into a demon. This metamorphic entity has several powers that can be used in several dimensions and can affect all forms of reality.

Above all, Chthon is the first master of dark magic who fashioned the Darkhold, the book Scarlet Witch studies at the end of WandaVision. Everything suggests that Wanda will be an ambivalent character in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, oscillating between Good and Evil, and it would not be impossible for Chthon to use Wanda as an avatar on Earth.

Even though Moon Knight is a “separate” series in the MCU, it seems to give us some hints and clues about plot elements of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And the release of its finale on the same day as the film is certainly not insignificant. We will have to wait to discover the resolution of the series and the feature film to really know the potential link between the two Marvel works.
