Marvel: Loki season 2 without Jonathan Majors as Kang? The rumor is confirmed

The “Loki” season 2 trailer was shown to a few reporters during the upfronts. This does not include Jonathan Majors or his character Kang, although he is the main antagonist of the series.

Spoiler alert! This article reveals key plot elements from Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If you haven’t seen the movie and don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read on.

During Disney’s upfronts last week — industry events where channels and platforms pitch their upcoming content to the American press — Marvel Studios screened the Loki Season 2 trailer. Everyone was waiting to see if Jonathan Majors would appear in this trailer…and the answer is no!

Neither the actor nor the character he plays Kang feature in these first images that the rest of the world is waiting to discover. While he is the central super-villain of the series and even of phase 5 of the MCU!

Indeed, the character of Majors was announced as the main villain of Loki season 2 in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which features Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Mobius (Owen Wilson) among the spectators of a show featuring a variant of Kang, Victor Timely.

After Quantumania’s theatrical release in February, Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York at the end of March, charged with strangulation, assault and harassment.

During the upfronts to press and advertisers on May 16, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige previewed a few of the upcoming MCU series, including Secret Invasion, Echo, and Loki season 2.

According to Axios reporter Tim Baysinger, Kevin Feige made no mention of Jonathan Majors being on the show, or any of his characters – be it Kang or Victor Timely.

The Loki Season 2 trailer doesn’t mention Jonathan Majors, and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige didn’t even mention he was on the show.

The Loki season 2 trailer has not yet been released by Disney, but Kevin Feige took advantage of the event to announce its release date. The great return of the god of lies and mischief is set for Friday, October 6. The series thus passes from Wednesday to Friday.

How Marvel Will Handle Jonathan Majors in Loki Season 2?

Neither Marvel nor Kevin Feige has yet commented on Jonathan Majors’ arrest in March. Although fan speculation has swirled over whether the studio will – or should – recast the role of Kang, Deadline reported in April that Marvel had no discussions about replacing the actor. It is likely that the studio will wait to see how the case progresses on the legal side before making a decision.

Since Loki season 2 wrapped filming and announced its release date, it doesn’t seem like Marvel has any plans to alter the series. Which could cost a lot of money and seems impossible for an October release.

It is almost certain that the trailer that will be revealed to the general public will be the same as the one presented to the American press and that it will therefore not include Jonathan Majors or his various incarnations.

After Loki, the actor’s next known appearance as Kang is slated for 2025 with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. For now, it looks like Marvel wants to keep Jonathan Majors on as Kang. However, if Majors is found guilty of the charges against him, the studio could revise its plans.

Season 2 of Loki premieres Friday, October 6 on Disney+.
