One of the stars of Top Gun: Maverick, who is currently a hit in dark rooms, almost slipped into the skin of a bad-guy for Marvel. It’s not about Tom Cruise, who refused to play a famous superhero for the studios, but about Jon Hamm!
Jon Hamm, who plays Vice-Admiral Beau “Cyclone” Simpson, Pete Mitchell’s superior, in Top Gun: Maverick, was indeed very close to playing the villainous Mr. Sinister of the New Mutants, spin-off of the X-Men saga released in theaters in 2020. The American would have more precisely made a cameo in the post-generic scene of the mutant feature film in order to teaser a now very hypothetical X-Men Cinematic Universe. But the deal did not materialize…
Jon Hamm in Mr. Sinister, case closed? In an interview given at the Comicbook websitethe famous Don Draper from the Mad Men series does not give up, always showing himself motivated by the idea. “As a kid, I was a big fan of the 80s X-Men comic books. And still am. I’m still a fan.”he says first.
“I think what they’ve managed to do, and what they want to continue doing, because I talk to the people who are planning these things, this way of developing these stories, the spirit and the creativity with which they present them, it’s something that really goes back to the old way comics were presented”continues the 51-year-old actor.
And Jon Hamm concludes, almost postulating again for a first superheroic foray: “What they did with the last Spider-Man movie, which was such a cool iteration of this idea of the Multiverse and how three things can exist at the same time, it’s very creative. The way they show creativity is something, clearly, that I would love to be a part of.”
