Stan Lee, the creator of the comic book Iron Manwho serves as executive producer of the film adaptation, explains why he created this atypical superhero. “What pushed me to create a character like Iron Man was that I wanted to try something different from the usual superhero”he declares. “In 1963, he embodied everything that young readers of the time did not hold in their hearts: he was an industrialist who invented war machines.”
“I told myself that I would make sure that young people found him endearing by making him an interesting, rich, elegant and attractive guy”continues Stan Lee. “But I also wanted him to have a heart problem to break up his ‘perfect’ side and make readers care about him. The response has been great and, of all the Marvel characters, Iron Man received the most fan mail from readers. People of all ages recognized the human side of the character.”
